We William Dunbar & Ralph Graham of the Township of Niagara do hereby certify that we have carefully examined the accompanying Claim maid by Mary Shaw of the township of Niagara for damage Sustained by her from His Majesty’s troops commanded by Colonel Murray as in the said Claim set forth and we do further Certify from our own knowledge that the said Mary Shaw has actually Suffured the damage for which She Claims to be remunerated ant that in our estimation the Sum of £26.9.5 Halifax Currency is a just and reasonable Compensation for the Same and also that the several Claims therein put down are not over Charged

Affidavits in Support of the Claim of Mary Shaw now Mary Campbell of Queenston

Mary Campbell, formerly Mary Shaw, wife of John Shaw Late of Queenston, deceased, maketh Oath and Saith that the Claim preferred by her to the Board in 1815 is a just and true account of losses sustained by her during the late War with the United States of America, except the charges for damage to Stable and Fences Rale, for which she does not now considered herself entitled to remuneration, having given back the land on which they stood to the Executors of the Estate of the Late Robert Hamilton, from whom they were originally purchased, and no payment made upon them. This deponent further saith that she has not received either directly or indirectly, compensation for any part of her said Losses.

Benjamin Thompson, Son of Archibald Thompson, late of Stamford in this said District deceased, Maketh Oath and Saith That in the Year 1813 Mary Shaw now Mary Campbell did deposit in his said father’s House, for Security, a Chest of Joiners and Carpenters Tools and a Man’s Saddle. That the said Chest of Tools and Saddle was in his said father’s house when he this deponent, went to the Head of the Lake on the 8th July 1814, but were gone when he returned home on the 27th of the same month. and that he verily believes they were taken away by the Enemy, as he frequently heard his deceased father and mother say so.

William Dunbar of Queenston in the said District, Joiner, Maketh Oath and Saith that he has examined the Claim of Mary Shaw now Mary Campbell for losses sustained by her during the late War, and that to the best of his knowledge and belief the same is just and true, after deducting them from the charges for damages to Stable and destruction of fences + rale, this deponent further saith that, to his own knowledge she owned a Chest of Joiners and Carpenter’s Tools which in his Estimation were worth Thirty Seven pounds ten Shillings Provincial Currency.
